N.J. Police Nab Hatboro Man Wanted in Attempted Sale of Stolen Guns

Huett Johnson, who had been wanted by the Montgomery County District Attorney's office, was sent to prison Sunday in lieu of $50,000 full cash bail.

According to an article in the Cape May County Herald, police officers from Wildwood, N.J. on Sunday arrested a Hatboro man wanted in connection with the attempted sale of stolen guns earlier this month.

Officers from the Wildwood Police Department Uniform Patrol Division responded at 8:30 a.m. Sunday to the New Jersey Transit Bus Terminal, and, following a foot pursuit, arrested , 30, of Hatboro, for the alleged sale of stolen weapons. 

Montgomery County law enforcement officials had said last week that he was wanted for attempting to sell stolen firearms in Hatfield. As officers tried to arrest him on June 6, Johnson fled and had been wanted by local authorities ever since.

According to the Cape May County Herald article, at the time of his arrest Sunday, police said they found Johnson to be in possession of a stun gun, a pair of handcuffs, and a quantity of a controlled dangerous substance (schedule 2 drug).

Besides being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, Johnson was charged with obstruction of justice, possession of handcuffs, possession of  a stun gun, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled dangerous substance within a school zone.

Local officials have said that because of prior convictions, Johnson is prohibited from possessing firearms. 

Johnson was sent to Cape May County Correction Center in lieu of $50,000 full cash bail.

Montgomery County First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele said Monday afternoon that Johnson is facing New Jersey charges, which he said are typically handled first. 

"Our charges are lodged as a detainer so that he will not be released from jail," Steele wrote in an e-mail. "We will start extradition proceedings; however, no specific time frame is known."
