MSNBC: Former Hatboro Cop Used Authority to Obtain Drugs

The Attorney General's office has been investigating former Hatboro Police detective sergeant John Becker since at least June.

A former obtained drugs for his own use, according to an article on MSNBC.

Citing unnamed sources, the article claims that detective sergeant John Becker - who resigned from his post in June following a nearly without pay - became addicted to painkillers and used would-be criminals to supply him with drugs.

According to the article, Becker allegedly told those suspected of a crime that they could forego being charged by working as drug informants. The former veteran police officer, instead of undertaking a drug investigation, allegedly kept the drugs the informants purchased for himself.

Hatboro elected officials, as well as Police Chief James Gardner previously refused comment on Becker, the reasons for his suspension and later, his resignation.

In June, when the council accepted his resignation, then-council President Marianne Reymer would only say, "It was his decision to resign" and that Becker was not forced to tender his resignation.
