Once inside, Kendall Johnson, who police said was armed with a large crow bar and Utsey, who police said was armed with a semi-automatic handgun, allegedly confronted the victim while he slept in his second floor bedroom. Police said the two demanded money and prescription medications. The victim refused and was severely beaten with the crow bar.

During the incident, Utsey allegedly threatened the victim with the handgun, firing several shots inside the room.

The victim attempted to escape the residence, but police said the suspects pushed him down the stairs. Prior to exiting the residence, police said the victim was beaten repeatedly with the crow bar and pistol whipped with the handgun. He was ultimately able to escape to a neighbor’s home and the police were called.

The suspects left the residence with a small fire safe, according to law enforcement. Upon allegedly breaking into the safe, the suspects learned that it contained nothing of value.
