Horsham Promotes Cop to Sergeant

Officer in Charge Scott Fida is now a sergeant in the Horsham Township Police Department.

A Horsham Police officer of 12 years officially moved from the role of the "under study" to a supervisor Wednesday night.

Scott Fida, who had served as an officer in charge since 2007, was sworn in during the Horsham Township Council meeting as a sergeant.

In his previous role, Fida, who joined the Horsham Police Department in 2001 after working as a SEPTA transit police officer, said he worked as an interim supervisor, or an "under study, so to speak."

"I supervise a six-man platoon," Fida said. "I'm excited for the challenge."

Police Chief Robert Ruxton said the sergeant vacancy stemmed from last year's retirement of Captain Joe Repkoe. Since then, several police officers have been promoted from within.

The department is two short of its 40-member police department, Ruxton said. Two new police officers will be sworn in next month, bringing the department to its full complement.

Ruxton said the sergeant's position was decided through a process of interviews.

"Scott came out on top," Ruxton said.
