Horsham Police Investigate String of Burglary Attempts

Three break-ins reported Monday in residences located within the same vicinity.

Horsham Police are seeking information about a burglary and two attempted burglaries which occurred Monday morning in neighboring residences. 

The first break-in was reported at 12:44 a.m. Monday, when a resident in a home located in the 200 block of Beatrice Avenue heard a crash coming from the rear of the home. The property owner checked the alarm panel for the home's alarm system and it showed an open door at the rear of the home.

A responding officer located a window near the back door had been broken out. Cheltenham police responded to assist with a K-9 unit. The K-9 was able to track a possible suspect from the rear of the home to the area of the , which is located in Horsham Township. At this point the track ended.

Then, at 7:53 a.m., a resident in the unit block of Home Road arrived home from a weekend vacation to find a window in the rear of the residence broken out. Upon investigation, police discovered that the residence had been entered and items had been removed from the home. The rear of this residence faces the Hatboro Little League field.

A few hours later, at 11:37 a.m. on Monday, a resident in the 100 block of Diane Avenue reported to police that at approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday night he heard a loud sound coming from a rear bedroom in the home.

The resident reported that did not see anything out of the ordinary. The next day, during daylight hours, he checked the outside rear of the home and found a ladder against the home leading to the window of the bedroom where the noise was previously heard. The window of the bedroom was broken. Further investigation showed that there was no property missing from the home.

The properties are situated in the same vicinity. Police are asking residents to report suspicious activity or noises to the Horsham Police Department at 215-643-3600.

Vehicle theft

On Saturday, Michael Evans, 21 of the 7000 block of Gillespie Street in Philadelphia, was arrested for theft of a vehicle. The vehicle had been reported stolen from the 200 block of Blair Mill Road. Evans was stopped by an officer from Yeadon Borough while driving the stolen vehicle. Evans was taken into custody and subsequently released on bail. The vehicle was recovered by the owner.

Simple assault, harassment

On Friday, William Ruddy, 43 of the 3600 block of Crowne Avenue, was arrested for simple assault and harassment after an altercation with his girlfriend. Ruddy and the victim were visiting a park near the when they began to argue. During the argument Ruddy struck the victim in the face and grabbed the victim around the neck. The victim was able to get away from Ruddy and walk to the police station lobby to file a complaint. Ruddy, who also arrived at the police station shortly after, was arrested and subsequently released on bail on the condition that he have no further contact with the victim.
