Hatboro Teen Charged as Juvenile in Alleged Stabbing

Police said the 14-year-old boy stabbed his mother after she attempted to stop him from ramming a parked car in their driveway.

A 14-year-old Hatboro boy is detained in the Montgomery County Youth Center in connection with an alleged stabbing incident which police said happened at a borough home.

The teen, who police declined to name because of his age, is accused of stabbing his 39-year-old mother Wednesday at approximately 5 p.m. Police did not provide a location for the alleged incident, or an address for the suspect.

Police said the boy’s mother had called police and reported that she had been stabbed by her son who was presently in a vehicle in their driveway crashing it into another parked vehicle. Upon arrival, police found that the mother had attempted to stop her son from ramming the parked car. Police contend the teen struck his mother with the car and pinned her between the vehicle he was operating and the parked vehicle that he was ramming.

When individuals are charged with crimes as adults, they are arraigned before a judge and the criminal charges are read to them. Hatboro Police Chief James Gardner said arraignments do not occur with suspects charged as juveniles. Instead, juveniles are approved for detention by the Juvenile Probation Department, he said.

Gardner said he could not determine how long the boy would remain in the detention center and said more information may be available once the case adjudicated.

"We can't release more at this time as that would be paramount to releasing his identity which we can't do because of his age," Gardner wrote in an e-mail to Patch.
