Hatboro Police Blotter

Stolen copper wire and a bicycle and damaged Halloween decorations were among the incidents reported to police.

Theft

  • Sometime overnight between Oct. 9, and Oct. 10, someone stole approximately 50-60 feet of copper wire from a signal box on the rail line just south of the crossing with Byberry Avenue. The wire had a replacement cost of approximately $200.
  • On Oct. 7, at 6:22 p.m., a bicycle was stolen from in front in the 200 block of South York Road where it was displayed for sale. The bicycle, a 24-inch, royal blue Specialized men’s hybrid, was for sale for $123. The subject who stole the bicycle was observed getting on it and riding south on York Road. He was described as being a black male, about six foot tall, thin build, and was wearing jeans, a white shirt, black or blue jacket, and was carrying what appeared to be a computer case. A search by the Hatboro and Upper Moreland Police Departments failed to locate the subject.

Criminal mischief/disorderly conduct

On Oct. 9, at 8:21 p.m., officers responded to a report of criminal mischief in progress in the 40 block of East Montgomery Avenue. A 16-year-old boy from Philadelphia was arrested and cited for criminal mischief and disorderly conduct when investigation revealed he entered a residential yard and damaged a plastic Halloween skeleton.

Public drunkenness/disorderly conduct

Domingo Alarcon Montero, 30, no fixed address, was arrested and cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct on Oct. 9, at 2:19 a.m. after officers responded to a disturbance in the 50 block of East Moreland Avenue.  Investigation revealed he returned to an apartment he was removed from during a disturbance the previous night.

Harassment/public drunkenness

Rafael Acosta, 24, of Hatboro, was arrested and cited on Oct. 2 at 2:32 a.m. for harassment and public drunkenness when officers responded to a domestic disturbance in an apartment building on South York Road near Moreland Avenue.

Theft (from vehicle)

Sometime overnight between Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, someone entered a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Jefferson Avenue and stole approximately $7 in loose change. The owner believes the vehicle was locked but it showed no signs of forced entry when the door was found ajar and the change was missing in the morning.

Assault/harassment

Joseph M. Darreff Sr., 51, of Hatboro, was arrested on Sept. 29, at 10:18 p.m.,  and charged with simple assault and harassment when officers responded to a disturbance on Sawtooth Lane. The victim, a 50-year-old Hatboro woman, was transported to the hospital for evaluation due to injuries to her face after allegedly being struck in the face by a table fan during the disturbance. Darreff was arraigned by District Justice Paul Leo and was released from custody on $2,500 bail.

Fraud

On Sept. 29, a resident of South York Road reported being the victim of a fraud.  It was discovered the resident received an unsolicited phone call from a company calling itself “I Loans” earlier in the week. After negotiating a loan for $1,500, he agreed to wire funds for “processing fees.” The victim used Western Union to wire the fees to India. Several transfers were made by the victim to India and once the total processing fees for the $1,500 loan reached $2600, he became suspicious and reported the incident to police.
