Hatboro Man Accused of Prank Calling Cops

Harassment

Matthew G. Newsome, 50, of Hatboro, was charged via summons with two counts of harassment on Dec. 10 at 11:51 p.m. Police said the charges stemmed from Newsome's alleged repeated calls to a commercial busines on East Moreland Avenue. Numerous calls were received by the victims and each time the caller called them a profane insult and hung up, according to police.

As a result, officers attempted to reach Newsome on the phone and left a message for him advising him of the investigation and that criminal charges may be filed. After leaving the message for the suspect, the Hatboro Police Station then began receiving similar calls from Newsome's phone number consisting of a profane insult, followed by a hang up. As a result, Newsome was charged via summons with two counts of harassment.

Public drunkenness

Raymond Connor, 49, of Trevose, was arrested and cited on Dec. 22 at 1:41 p.m. for public drunkenness when he was found passed out lying on the ground in a parking lot on Lincoln Avenue near Tanner Avenue.

Criminal mischief

  • On Dec. 21, officers responded to the area of Windsor Avenue and Meadowbrook Avenue for a report of two female juveniles spray-painting graffiti. The juveniles were gone when officers arrived, but it was discovered they painted obscenities on a concrete wall near the intersection.
  • On Dec. 11, at 8:02 a.m., officers investigated criminal mischief complaints in the 40 block of Loller Avenue. Investigation revealed a silver pickup truck, operated by a white female in her 20s with dark hair, drove through numerous residential yards causing damage to multiple lawns and a retaining wall. Numerous witnesses reported either hearing or seeing the truck driving through the yards when the incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m., but no one called police when it happened. It was also reported that the truck’s occupants were loudly laughing and appeared intoxicated as they drove through the yards. An estimate of the cost to repair the lawns and retaining wall is not available.
  • Sometime overnight between Dec. 9, and Dec. 10, someone smashed the windshield of a 1999 Buick that was parked on Kings Court. The windshield is expected to cost about $400 to repair.

Warrant service

  • Miguel A. Gonzalez, 26, of Hatboro, was arrested on Dec. 17 at 9:22 p.m., on a Montgomery County bench warrant for failure to appear in court when an officer on patrol observed him on York Road near Byberry Avenue. He was released to the custody of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.
  • Michael S. Landis Jr., 23, of Hatboro, was arrested on Dec. 17, at 2:58 a.m., on a Lehigh County bench warrant for failure to pay child support when he was located at the Hatboro on N. York Road. He was released to the custody of the Lehigh County Sheriff’s Department.

DUI/accident

Karina L. Carden, 49, of Glaswyne, was arrested on Dec. 15 at 6:53 p.m. for Driving Under the Influence and related traffic offenses following a traffic accident that occurred on North York Road at Summit Avenue.  

Disorderly conduct

Dennis Charles, 61, of Philadelphia, was cited on Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. for disorderly conduct after officers responded to complaints about a subject defecating in a trash can in the 200 block of South York Road before getting on a southbound Septa bus. The bus was stopped by police and Charles was cited.

DUI

Castavetti Braggs, 20, of Upper Moreland Township, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and related traffic offenses on Dec. 10, at 7:23 a.m., after officers responded to a report of a reckless driver that had allegedly struck a utility pole on Horsham Road near York Road and continued driving. Officers located the vehicle parked in a parking lot at 300 Horsham Road with the operator still seated inside.
