The gunshots residents of Hunt Drive in Horsham heard and subsequently called into police Tuesday morning were most likely blanks fired to scare geese off from one of the two nearby golf clubs, police said.
A police official said the golf courses are known to use "goose guns." The guns are often modified or specially produced weapons that fire blanks and cause a loud gunshot-like noise in an effort to scare off the geese that can damage the turf.
When the call came in shortly after 10 a.m., police from the township's patrol unit responded to the neighborhood and searched the surrounding area on foot. The officers found nothing in the neighborhood that indicated nefarious activity, the official said.
By 11 a.m. police were cleared from the scene.
