Fire Breaks Out in Home on Hatboro Border

The single-family residence sustained heavy damage and a man was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

A Sunday night fire in Upper Moreland, on the border of Hatboro, sent a man to the hospital, took the life of a household pet and heavily damaged a single family home.

The blaze broke out shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday. Heavy fire damage was visible to much of the house at 122 Bonnet Lane, particularly on the right side of the structure as viewed from the street. Several firefighters were seen using flashlights inside and on the roof of the house.

A man was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation. He sustained his injuries when he attempted to enter the home to rescue a dog that was inside, according to Upper Moreland Police Chief Thomas Nestel. The dog, a golden retriever named "Angel," did not survive.

Nestel said the fire started as a result of candles that were left burning unattended. It was not immediately clear whether any people were home at the time the fire started.

The Breaking News Network reported that the fire was placed under control shortly before 10:30 p.m.

Fire units from Willow Grove, Abington, Upper Moreland, , and as well as , Roslyn Fire Company, and Hartsville Fire Company responded to the scene.
