Enterprise Fire Expansion Moves Forward

Construction on the station expected to begin by March 1

Enterprise Fire Co. moved a step closer to completing its 2-story, 2,500-square-foot addition Monday as Hatboro Borough Council's awarded a construction contract.

The council voted unanimously to award the first phase of the project, totaling $886,000, to Titanium Construction.

Enterprise Fire Co. President Chris Gowen said work would begin sometime between now and March 1 and is expected to take six to eight months to complete. Fundraising is ongoing for the project's second phase, an 800-square-foot expansion, Gowen said.

"It’s been a lot of hard work," Gowen said. "It looks like we’re at the end, folks."

The addition is being funded in large part through a $500,000 matching state grant, as well as $300,000 from the borough, $200,000 from the Fire Capital Improvement Fund and up to $200,000 from the Hatboro Authority. Gowen said the fire department has also raised $100,000 and is seeking additional funding in the form of project sponsors. So far, Hatboro Federal Savings has agreed to contribute $25,000 and will receive “naming rights” for the multi-purpose training room, Gowen has said.

The council discussed where "bridge" funding would come from until the state grant is in hand.

Councilman John Zygmont suggested that council "wait and see where the money is when we need the money. We have to approve those transfers when they happen anyway."
