The community has rallied behind a dog in who was shot by Hatboro police this weekend.

The friends and family of Lola, a 3-year-old boxer mastiff shot by police Saturday near York and County Line roads, started an online fundraising page to help offset the cost of vet bills and have nearly reached their $6,000 goal.

According to a summary on the page, Lola was shot in the leg by police Saturday after she left her yard and approached a neighbor in a “friendly manner.” She will need surgery, which the family says is estimated to cost approximately $6,000.

“Lola's life is now on the line over a senseless act of violence,” the GoFundMe page reads.

However, local police tell a different story.

Police Chief James Gardner told The Intelligencer that the dog was at large and became aggressive with three women who were trying to get control of it. When police arrived, it charged at an officer, who then fired four times, The Intelligencer reported.

However, neighbors told the publication that Lola is “loving” and “energetic” and not aggressive with neighborhood dogs.
