Bomb Squad Responds to Horsham CVS

A man walked in the store and made statements that indicated he may have had a bomb.

Employees at the CVS on Welsh Road in the Maple Glen section of Horsham Township called police after a man in his late 30s walked into the store and inquired about explosives.

“He walked in and asked a CVS employee if he knew what C4 was,” Sgt. Lawrence Bozzomo said.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., arriving police units evacuated the area around the CVS and called the Montgomery County Sheriff Department’s bomb squad unit to investigate the man’s white Toyota, which was parked near the front of the store, according to the sergeant.

After a search by bomb squad members, no explosives or weapons were discovered, Bozzomo told Patch.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was taken into custody at a nearby Chinese restaurant where he went to get dinner after making the strange remarks to CVS employees.

The suspect, who is believed to have recently traveled around the United States, remains in police custody, Bozzomo said.

Bomb squad members did notice portions of the vehicle that looked suspicious and had been tampered with. This prompted authorities to set off a small explosive device to “clear the vehicle,” Bozzomo reported.

At around 8 p.m., the bomb squad declared the car safe and it was towed to a township lot.

Portions of Welsh Road were closed for a period of time while police investigated the threat.

were assisted by the Upper Dublin Police Department, and Whitpain police.
