Cemetery Thieves Stole From People Visiting Graves, Police Say

Police arrest three people for allegedly breaking into cars at cemeteries—including in Horsham—while the owners visited graves.

Police departments in seven Bucks and Montgomery communities believe Bensalem Police nabbed a trio of alleged thieves who stole from cars in cemetery lots while people visited graves, according to reports.

Phillyburbs.com reported that court records link the three–Pamela Hummel, 30, of Morrisville, Jose Leon, 44, no fixed address, and Nathan Phillips, 29, of Bristol —to thefts at cemeteries in Horsham, Glenside, Cheltenham and Lower Moreland in Montgomery County and Bensalem, Middletown, and Lower Southampton in Bucks.

They mostly targeted women at the cemeteries, Bensalem police sergeant Andy Aninsman told CBSPhilly, stealing purses from unoccupied cars at the cemeteries. About $5,000 was stolen in cash and unauthorized credit card use.

Police narrowed in on the three after reviewing surveillance footage at stores where the stolen credit cards were used, according to Phillyburbs.com. Hummel and Leon were caught by Lower Southampton Police, who found credit cards, keys and a driver’s license belonging to victims.

Phillips was identified as an accomplice and was picked up by Lower Moreland Police. All three confessed, the report stated.
