Community Corner

Support Radnor Veterns Park!

I am writing to ask your support for the initiative to rededicate the
space currently known as St. Davids Park in honor of veterans, past,
present and future.

I moved to Wayne just over three years ago, after nineteen years in
Center City Philadelphia.  Among my favorite things about this
community are the open spaces and a greater sense of community
patriotism than is often found in a large city.

The Parks and Recreation Committee unanimously supported this
initiative at its meeting on September 12th.  I attended the meeting
to show my support, as did approximately seventy-five other Township
residents present, and over four hundred local residents who signed
petitions.

It is as a fellow Radnor Township resident that I request your support.  I have
had the honor of serving in the USMC, the USMCR and the PA Guard.   I volunteer with several
organizations which serve veterans, including Warrior Weekend, the PA
Hero Walk, the American Legion and Philadelphia Veterans Court.  While
it is indeed an improvement that most Americans no longer treat
veterans and military personnel with the disdain with which they
treated our Vietnam era personnel, my request is for a more lasting
tribute, one which will endure long after the current wars have ended.
A place where any veteran will be able to visit and know that their
own sacrifice is gratefully and respectfully remembered, whether
wartime or peacetime, whether they served as a JAG Officer, Fighter
pilot, Grunt, Cook or Mail Clerk.  They swore an oath and upheld it,
and Radnor Township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania remembers that.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
