HHHS is open on Friday?

We just got an automated phone call from Hatboro Horsham School District. Hatboro Horsham High School will be open on Friday, even though the high school is being used as a place for people to stay, that don't have power. The district recording stated the high school will have people staying there, for emergency shelter. Also there will be barricades up to divide off the kids and the emergency shelter. I applaud the district for helping the community. I do, however, have an issue about my kids being in school with complete strangers roaming the building. This is completely ridiculous to me! Just give the kids another day off and let the high school continue to do good for our community. Don't put our childrens safety at risk!

I kind of agree with that one I would not feel comfortable with the schools being open and people roaming all over the place what's another day school Off?? they will be going to school until July anyway at this rate

I am sure the school has security in place to prevent people who are seeking shelter from roaming the school.

It is a Red Cross Shelter and the people staying there are confined to the gym area, so they are not "roaming the school".

This is the actual message sent out by the district, doesn't sound like anyone will be "roaming the building". Lots of people are working hard to make sure our community is safe: ADDITIONALLY, THE HATBORO-HORSHAM HIGH SCHOOL IS SERVING AS A RED CROSS SHELTER. PRECAUTIONS HAVE BEEN PUT IN PLACE TO KEEP THE HHSD STUDENT POPULATION AND SHELTERED POPULATION SEPARATED. ADDITIONAL SECURITY PERSONNEL AND PHYSICAL BARRIERS WILL BE IN PLACE TO PARTION OFF THE SHELTERED AREA FROM THE ACADEMIC AREA.

I understand your concern as well but, I also know that for the kids in the elementary schools without air conditioning they won't be able to go to school for another week in June! This winter has been frustrating and each added make up day is going to take these kids into dangerously hot summer months or confuse them by trying to bus them to schools with a/c just for the last week or so!

Good point Nicole. All my kids' schools have a/c, so that never occurred to me. And don't get me wrong, I think it is great that the district is helping those in need.

Other school districts are making it very clear when the make-up days are going to be. For example, some are taking away President's Day. Why is our district keeping it a secret. Why no information? It is really pathetic to be so in the dark.

Is it true they closed the HHHS shelter even though there are still so many outages in Montco/ Bucks areas???? I was talking to a woman who had no where to go and said the shelter closed so she is going home to a freezing cold house w/ no water and no power.

They can go to school in June. They would just shorten the school days on the days it is too hot.

I understand they can go to school when it's hot, but what's the point? They won't be learning anything by having a week or so of half days. Once Memorial Day weekend happens, I think most students and teachers start checking out. That's not said to put down anyone, just my two cents.
