Why I'll Volunteer this Saturday

Saturday is great volunteer opportunity to make a difference for a local organization

This Saturday I’ll volunteer along with tens of thousands of my Comcast and NBC Universal colleagues for the 12th annual Comcast Cares Day. Out of the more than 60 sites available in the region, I chose to work at Special Equestrians, a therapeutic horseback riding non-profit, in Warrington where I will help with cleanup and landscaping of the Sensory Trail.

Years ago, I used to volunteer at another therapeutic riding club so I know the benefit to children and adults with disabilities. My work and family life don’t allow room for regular volunteer work anymore so I’m happy to have this chance to help out.

I started with Comcast one year ago - the week of Comcast Cares Day. I went out to a project expecting to do mostly symbolic cleanup work. I was truly impressed to see the effort and resources that go into a Comcast Cares Day project. Not only do volunteers have the expected supplies like work gloves and trash bags (and plenty of snacks too), they also have paint, brushes and drop cloths; trees, shrubs, flowers, and mulch; and in some cases carpet, flooring, or fencing -  whatever that project needs so that when the volunteers leave there is a remarkable difference in the before and after.

There are still some projects that can take volunteers so if you’re interested in putting in a little hard work to help a worthy local organization, find a project at www.comcastinthecommunity.com. Hope you can make it out!
