Dog Walk, 5K to Benefit Local Animal Welfare Organizations

By Leann Pettit

Grab the pooch and head to Maple Glen on Aug. 18.

Shirley's Run, a four-legged friend 5K set to begin at Maple Manor Swim Club on Dillon Road, is also geared for adults and children too.

The one-mile dog walk will include prizes for biggest dog, smallest dog, oldest, best dressed, best trick, longest distance traveled and more.

The 5K Run and one-mile dog walk benefits the Shirley Schriftman Fund for Animals. Schriftman lived on Dillon Road in Maple Glen until her death in 2009.

The fund makes donations to local organizations that either rescue animals or train them in service to the community.

Pre-registration will be held on Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Ross Schriftman Insurance, 1250 Easton Road, in Horsham. Race Day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. through 8:15 a.m. for the 5K and runs until 9 a.m. for the dog walk.
