Yoga & Writing As One Flow

As the strongest structure comes from the trio, this workshop will be broken into three phases. Each phase will invite you to explore one aspect of self-reflection commonly used to shape a memoir or personal narrative. These phases will be paired with a beautiful and rich vinyasa flow that will mirror the self-reflection practice that is the focus.

Accessing the Heart

Before we begin to “know” ourselves, or return to this mindfulness for the sake of both asana and writing, we must make our hearts gentle, strong, and reachable. The postures associated with this phase will involve a warming vinyasa with maintained chest-openers and gentle backbends.

Cleansing

In writing with honesty, we must be prepared to face some memories that are very real and can be very challenging to address. Similarly in our yoga practice, there are postures (including, for many, seated meditation) that call upon our sense of courage and sincerity. Without such acts of self-cleansing and discover, we cannot grow as writers, yogis, and selves.

THIS SERIES WILL INVOLVE A YIN STYLE WITH DEEP OPENING POSTURES THAT ARE MAINTAINED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME (these are supported and generally last for about 5 minutes).

Returning

After we find access to our hearts, and possibly our skeletons, we must return to a space of harmony and clarity. This phase involves goal-setting and forward-thinking. We will write about our hopes, our dreams, our ambitions, any questions we want answered or to seek the answer to ourselves. The postures invite twists, and balances, and restorative meditation.
