Iconic Towey’s Tavern located in Hatboro’s booming Town
Center is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this Saturday, October 26th
starting at 4:00 PM.

Established in 1973 by the late James Towey and owned by
former employee and now owner James Kinney, Towey’s is Hatboro’s local
gathering place and neighborhood tavern.

“I first started working at Towey’s when I was 15 cleaning
the tavern on Sunday mornings,” remarked owner James Kinney. “I was friends
with the owner’s son Bill Towey and that is how I first came here. Towey’s is a
friendly, welcoming, neighborhood tavern. Many of our patrons are the second
generation of Hatboro residents to frequent Towey’s.”

“When I purchased the tavern from James Towey he wanted it
to stay Towey’s,” reminisced Kinney. “It has been an honor for me to run it the
same way that he did.”

“Some of the best times at Towey’s were during the 70s and
80s when Hatboro was the second most cruised strip next to Sunset Strip in
California,” mused Kinney. “One of my favorite days here was when the Phillies
won the World Series in 2008 and someone put “We are the Champions” on the juke
box. Everyone in the tavern began singing the song, the front door was open at
the time and I could hear the song spreading all the way up York Road and
through Hatboro.”

Towey’s first bartender, Connell Dougherty, will
ceremoniously be on hand to pour the first draft beer.
