HATBORO — Blair Mill Elementary is welcoming former students and staff to take a trip down memory lane with the opening of a nearly quarter-century old time capsule that will reveal tokens and other treasures. Blair Mill is inviting alumni and educators to its Family Reunion event, which will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the school, which is located at 109 Bender Road in Hatboro.

During the event, a time capsule sealed by students and staff in 1989 will be opened and its items will be displayed throughout the school. There will be a plethora of different artifacts showcased for Blair Mill alumni from the 23-year-old capsule, including book reports, essays on favorite music and video games, reports on how students spent their summers and other treasures.

Blair Mill student ambassadors will take visitors on a tour of the school and provide them with mini lessons of new curriculum and education initiatives, and showcase WBME-TV5 — the school’s student-run TV station. In the gymnasium, visitors will have the opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues, look at old and new photos that will be on display and view items that will be placed in the 2012 time capsule.

“This will not only be a great opportunity for former alumni to come together and reminisce on their time here at our school, but will also give our current students a chance to show how Blair Mill has progressed over the years,” Principal Nancy Doherty said.

“It’s neat to see the connection between the students from then and now,” Blair Mill Elementary Librarian Jennifer O’Leary added. “Although there has been a more than 20 year gap between the students, it is interesting to see through the time capsule that they still have the same types of goals and aspirations.”

If you are a former Blair Mill Elementary student, educator or staff member and are interested in attending the Nov. 14 reunion, RSVP by Nov. 1 by contacting Doherty by phone at 215-420-5201, or email at ndoherty@hatboro-horsham.org.

I just spoke with customer service at SEPTA regarding this issue. They can be reached through theirRead More website, through the phone, and through a postal address for customer suggestions and complaints. At the present time Hatboro's station is not slated for specific improvements. The overall plan, however, is to eventually upgrade all of SEPTA's stations to handicap accessible.
