Doubt, A Parable, by John Patrick Shanley

The Village Players of Hatboro present the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award Winning DOUBT, A PARABLE, by John Patrick Shanley. The story, inspired by one of the greatest controversies of our times, is a study in moral uncertainty with a certain structure of an old-fashioned detective drama.

A Roman Catholic priest, Father Flynn, is suspected by Sister Aloysius of sexual molestation of the only African American boy in a Catholic school in New York City. She is determined to stop him. Sister James, a neophyte nun, wants to do the right thing, but is unsure who to believe. Mrs. Muller, the mother of the boy in question, doesn’t want to cause any trouble for reasons of her own. The audience is challenged in their own beliefs and criteria for accusation. Did he do it or is he being falsely accused?
