Voters Return Republicans to Hatboro Council

Republicans remain in control of the Hatboro Borough Council.

Come January, the Hatboro Borough Council will shift from 6-1 Republican to 7-0 Republican-controlled.

Voters re-elected incumbent Republicans John Zygmont (772), Bill Tompkins (788) and newcomer Marty Palmer (758). Thomas Harbaugh, who was appointed to fill the seat of Republican Vincent LaSorsa in August, was the top vote-getter with 811 votes. All vote tallies are according to unofficial Montgomery County election results.

"We were running as a team and the team won, so we’re very excited," Harbaugh told Patch soon after the results were tallied Tuesday. "Our goals are that we want to maintain the tax rates that we have the best we can and not cut any services."

Tompkins paused from celebrating with his slate Tuesday night to say he'd "really like to keep things moving forward" and hoped to "attack the problems" in the coming year.

As far as the race itself, Tompkins said he thought it was a "reasonable" and that candidates "stayed on issues."

Was he surprised that his slate defeated–according to unofficial Montgomery County results–Democratic incumbent Patricia Fleming (708), as well as her slate, which included newcomers Toni Kistner (650), Ray Wallrath (646) and Michael Gorn (627)?

"The numbers are always surprising no matter how they turn out," Tompkins said.
