Take a break from all the practices, enjoy some musical fun, take in an old movie, or learn a new craft

Hey, between all the practices (baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse …) this weekend why not take a break and have some family fun.

How about enjoying some good old movies, learn to make paper, or enjoy some musical fun. If your weekend is too packed with practices, then try taking a break on Monday night and spend some fun time with dogs.

Where/When: The County Theater, 20 E. State Street, Doylestown or Ambler Theater, 108 E. Butler Ave., Ambler. Saturday at 11 a.m.

Why Go: The County Theater will be showing "Surf's Up." In this Oscar-nominated mockumentary, film crews go behind the scenes at the Penguin World Surfing Championship to provide a close-up look at the inventors of surfing. (Yes, penguins were the first species to hang 10 — or at least that’s what this charming spoof purports.) Rated PG. Made in 2007. Runs 1 hour, 25 minutes.

The Ambler Theater will be showing "Back to the Future." Eccentric inventor Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) turns a DeLorean into a time machine that inadvertently sends his young friend, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), 30 years into the past. While stuck in the 1950s, Marty disrupts his parents’ destiny and risks throwing the time-space continuum completely out of whack. The only way back to 1985 now is to get mom and dad to pucker up. Rated PG. Made in 1985. Runs 1 hour, 56 minutes.

These events allow you to share a big screen experience with your children and the chance to see your favorite characters larger-than-life. Our kids film series are not simply screenings alone. We aim to make these events fun and exciting experiences as well. We encourage your children (and you) to dress up in costume.
