Eateries Gear up for Game Day

Hatboro-Horsham scores big for Super Bowl fare

Whether this weekend will find you donning your black and gold for the homestate Steelers or your gold and green to support the Green Bay Packers, area eateries are prepared with the greasiest, most deep-fried temptations to offer Super Bowl satisfaction for fans in both camps — and even those refusing to strip off their Eagles green.

Food will be plentiful, and free, at Towey’s Tavern, which will offer its traditional buffet of homemade dishes and a bevy of drink specials. The tavern’s regular fare, which includes barside appetizers ranging from $2 to $5.25 - like its crispy chicken wings - will be available, as patrons take in the game on one of the bar’s seven televisions.

The beers will also be flowing and the fryers going at the Horsham Inn, 1006 Easton Road. The venue offers five TVs on which to watch the game, as well as other entertainment options, like pool and poker tables, darts and pinball, perfect for the halftime break. Food options range from sandwiches to finger foods, like cheesy broccoli bites and zesty crab fries, also in the $5 range.

If the raucous bar atmosphere isn’t your style, you can always grab a bite to eat at Hatboro Pizza. Although the television is small, the menu’s certainly not, with appetizers, pizzas, hot and cold sandwiches and Italian specialties. While the shop isn’t necessarily a place to watch the game from kickoff to trophy presentation, it’s a good spot to enjoy a meal while not missing the football fracas.

Likewise, Joe’s Pizza houses a small television on which patrons can take in the game while taking in one of the store’s many tasty offerings. In addition to its steaks and hoagies, sandwiches and strombolis, Joe’s boasts a unique approach to pizzamaking, with its cheese on the bottom and sauce on top. Joe’s uses equitable amounts of both sauce and cheese, making for an interesting and intriguing combo that may just succeed in pulling the diner’s attention away from the game.

And, for those who may be too broken up about the Eagles’ loss to venture outside on Super Bowl Sunday, Joe’s offers delivery.
