‘Boro’s Biggest Yard Sale' Set for Hatboro Baptist

The Hatboro Residents' Association is organizing a borough-wide yard sale to benefit several community groups.

Hatboro residents looking to unload unwanted goods will have their chance–in community fashion–on July 27.

Organized by the Hatboro Residents’ Association, the Boro’s Biggest Yard Sale will be held at Hatboro Baptist Church the same morning of Hatboro’s Moonlight Memories Car Show.

“Sometimes it’s hard when you’re going to do a yard sale all by yourself to get people to come and shop,” Hatboro Residents’ Association President Heather Hamilton said.

But, with a town-wide sale, Hamilton said the event, which doubles as a fundraiser, is sure to draw bigger crowds. Ultimately, Hamilton said she’s hoping for 40 vendors, which at $20 per space, would raise $800.

Monies would benefit the restoration of the borough’s 200-year-old clocktower atop borough hall, as well as the Hatboro Baptist Church youth group and the Hatboro Residents’ Association, Hamilton said.

“We’re a brand-new organization. We haven’t really done any fundraising yet,” Hamilton said of her group, adding that promotion for various events, including the bi-weekly gardeners’ market is coming “out of our own pocket.”

In terms of Hatboro Baptist, Pastor Melody Walden said fundraising proceeds would help the church’s 15 to 20 youth group members in sixth- through 12th-grades carry out various service projects.

Students adopt needy families every year, for instance, and work hard selling items to raise money for the family’s Christmas gifts, she said.

“They have a good time serving and reaching out,” Walden said. “We have some good fellowship times too.”
