5 Things: March 25

It's 1860s-era Civil War this weekend in Hatboro-Horsham.

1. Civil War demonstrations are Saturday and Sunday at from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Features include the 104th and 71st Civil War Voluntary Infantries, the annual School of the Soldier, and the Women's Sewing Circle. Walk around and see the live demonstrations, guided tours of Keith House, and learn about the War that almost divided our country. Local author Mark Hubman will be on hand Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. signing copies of his historical fiction novel, "Dearest Issabella."

 2. If you're interested in the Civil War and enjoy being around people who share that interest then check out the Civil War Round Table and delve into the rich history.

3. Hatboro has been around a long time (300 years in 2015) and many of the old buildings are still around today. See all the old buildings downtown Hatboro has to offer. Go on the Main Street Walking Tour. Take a stroll and see houses that were around during the time of the Civil War or earlier.

4. Book: Here is an interesting book about the unknown fighters in the Confederate Army, the Cherokees. It's called "The Confederate Cherokees: John Drew's Regiment of Mounted Rifles," by W. Craig Gaines. Read about the soldiers you haven’t heard of, while enjoying the imagery the author uses to describe the battle grounds and the Cherokee people.

5. Weather: Saturday looks clear for Civil War encampments. But, you may want to pack an extra layer to keep warm as the high is only expected to be 42 degrees.
