Technology helps local business owners catch the bad guys

While the names of businesses will be kept private, technology has recently helped out various local business owners.  Many businesses look at security camera, access control or a security system as a cost to their business instead of an investment.  here are a few recent occurrences from the last month that have helped change some minds.  A local auto body shop had security cameras installed.  When they came in on Monday, they noticed all of their scrap metal was missing.  This scrap metal helps pay for their business and some of the loss leader advertising they do.  By reviewing the recordings from the weekend, they saw employees of a neighboring business stealing the metal when the auto shop was known to be closed.  The owner of the auto body shop was able to recover the money for this metal from the neighboring business so it did not hurt his business (almost $3000 worth of metal).  Another business was robbed at gun point and di not have good working cameras.  However their property manager had them installed and those cameras caught the car and face of the robbers and, by putting on the tv and internet, those 2 individuals were caught 2 days later.  A local manufacturer that employs 80 people knew that people had too much access to the building.  They had access control installed on the entry doors and were able to eliminate people from coming in after hours or weekend when they were not supposed to be there and see that employees were going in and out way too much.  In the first 3 months, they recorded a reduction in "break times" of 15% which saved them a significant amount of money in paid hours for non work.  The last story involves a local insurance office who had an intercom system installed so they could keep their doors closed and locked and only buzz in someone authorized to be there.  Somebody came to the door and rang the intercom.  They were not expecting anyone and the person looked shady (hoodie pulled over his head and very fidgety).  They didn't even respond and instead called the police and gave a description.  This individual was picked up a few blocks away and was traced to 6 local robberies over a 2 week period.  These are just a few examples of technology helping businesses that many people don't know or think of.  Spread the word!  All businesses should make sure they do a proper security analysis both for their business as well as the safety of their employees (for they have families to go home to as well)!
