Where Can You Get Local Honey?

September is honey month.

By Lucy Bennett

The Philadelphia area plays an important role in beekeeping.

Lorenzo Lorraine Langstroth, known as “the Father of American Beekeeping,” was born in Philadelphia in 1810.

L.L. Langstroth developed the modern hive, according to AmericasBeekeepers.com.

Local beekeepers have followed in Langstroth’s footsteps, so if you’re looking for local honey, you have choices. (See the list below.)

Honey bees have been hit hard lately, with more than 30 percent of managed honey bee colonies lost last winter, according to a study by Bee Informed, the Apiary Inspectors of America and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
