Report: Google Plans to Sell Horsham Facility

Horsham-based Motorola Home is reportedly on Google's list to sell.

A year after the $, the Philadelphia Business Journal is reporting that Google Inc. may be looking to sell off its Horsham division, which manufactures cable TV set-top boxes.

While those plans are not finalized, sources told Bloomberg that the prospective sale could net Google $2 billion.  

As part of a company restructuring, Google announced earlier this month that it would cut 4,000 Motorola jobs and close about one-third of its 90 facilities as part of a plan to restore the hardware firm’s leadership in the mobile market. Workers in India would be impacted by this purported 20 percent staffing reduction among the company's 20,000 workers, according to The Economic Times

The Horsham plant, Motorola Home, nets about one-third of the company's annual sales. The site became part of Motorola when it took over the former General Instruments, a descendant of Jerrold Electronics, the post WWII cable TV equipment and finance business founded by Milton Jerrold Shapp.
