Local Shop Celebrates Record Store Day

HHH Records in Hatboro offers special deals on Saturday to commemorate Record Store Day.

Could bargains on albums and 45s be music to your ears?

HHH Records hope so. The Hatboro store, which is located at 21 N. York Road, is one of hundreds of independently owned music stores participating in the sixth annual Record Store Day on Saturday.

To mark the occasion, the store will be open longer hours, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. All customers will receive 50 percent off the purchase of all sealed LPs; and 25 percent off of Beatles and Elvis Presley 45s, according to Scott Hartkorn, whose step-father, George Hagerty owns the store.

A "bargain table" will feature $1 items, he said.

As an added savings bonus, Hartkorn said Hagerty will take 20 percent off of the entire LP collection–if HHH Records' Facebook page reaches 200 "likes" by Saturday–and provided the customer mentions the Facebook promotion while in the store. (At last count the page was at 189 likes).

Record Store Day began in 2008 "as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally," according to the event Web site.

It is celebrated the third Saturday in April at participating independently-owned record stores.

Some stores offer special vinyl and CD releases and host musicians for appearances and performances, according to the site.
