The business has been open for just eight months, and already has 25 students learning the gentile art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), as well as boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and classes for kids.

“I’ve been training in some form of martial arts since I was in middle school,” said Frawley, a former wrestler for . “After college I had nothing to do, so I started doing karate with a local guy in a town I was living in at the time, and from then on I have been studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about 10 years now.”

Paper Street's primary focus is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger opponent by using leverage and proper techniques. BJJ is not only a mixed martial art, but a means of promoting physical fitness and building character.

“People come to an instructor not only for his skill set, but for the energy involved in the room. We have moms, dads, and a couple of kids in the class, but it is a fighting sport,” said Frawley. “I like showing people new stuff. I like to see them progress and be able to pull off different techniques that I show them. Everyone has their own style, and it is fun to see that style come out when they are out there.”
