Gym Planned for Village Mall

The Horsham Zoning Hearing Board will determine if a fitness facility can open at the Village Mall shopping center.

If the Horsham Zoning Hearing Board gives the go-ahead, a national fitness chain could open in Horsham's Village Mall by spring.

Retro Fitness is interested in setting up shop in one of the vacancies within the Village Mall, which is located at 200 Blair Mill Road in Horsham. The 70s era shopping center and former movie theater is anchored by Speed Raceway, Ollie's Bargain Outlet and Acme.

Because gyms are not permitted uses in the township's shopping centers, Retro Fitness must go before the zoning hearing board, according to Horsham Township Manager Bill Walker. The Horsham Township Council reviewed the application during its meeting Monday night and took a neutral position, Walker said.

The Retro Fitness application is expected to be heard at the zoners' Dec. 10 meeting. If approval is granted at the board's meeting in January, Walker said Retro Fitness hopes to be open in March or April.
