Construction to Finish Soon on Former Wachovia Bank

Hatboro Federal Savings plans to relocate its administrative office to the York Road property.

Anyone who’s passed by the former Wachovia Bank building on York Road may have noticed its interior, or lack thereof.

The former bank, which changed hands in late 2011 from the borough to Hatboro Federal Savings, is being gutted and rebuilt from its exterior shell inward.

Hatboro Federal's President and CEO Joseph J. Tryon Jr. told Patch that construction is expected to continue until sometime in November, the same month the bank hopes to move its administration office into the space.

In all, Tryon said the construction would likely cost more than $1 million. Once complete, the building will have the “same footprint” as its former life as Wachovia Bank.

The one exception, however, is that the newly remodeled building will have a “full second floor,” as compared to Wachovia’s “partially completed second floor.”

Tryon, who serves as the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce president, said that in addition to bringing new life to the shuttered building, Hatboro Federal is putting locals to work.

“We are using as many local Hatboro businesses as we can,” Tryon said, adding that Hatboro’s Omnia Architects worked on the building design, while Hatboro Concrete and Hatboro Lumber contributed to its construction. “In any way we can we’re trying to use local contractors.”

Saying that Hatboro Federal is a “good neighbor,” Tryon said other plans call for repaving and opening up driveways in the rear of the property.

“We’re going to do a lot of work back there to clean up that whole area,” Tryon said. “We’re very anxious to get our administrative building over there.”
