Arcadia-Hatboro Partnership Spurs Classes

Officials said continuing education programs are planned to begin this fall.

Business owners want daytime employee training courses, while residents are seeking evening continuing education offerings. Still others want advanced placement courses for high school students and degree programming. 

It is yet to be determined what will become of the ’s early stage . However, Arcadia University’s Dean of Continuing Studies, Erik Nelson, said it’s the King of Prussia-based school’s intention to launch offerings in Hatboro this fall “with the goal of releasing and offering additional programs in the months ahead.”

Arcadia officials last month met with focus groups comprised of 45 individuals representing Hatboro’s businesses, residents and charities, to determine how a continuing education program that would be tailored to the needs of Chamber members could be established in Hatboro.

"While the focus group information is preliminary at present, there are some indicators from Arcadia's perspective pertaining to what we see as possible course/program/workshop, credit and non-credit deliverables,” Nelson said in a statement provided to Patch. “I want to emphasize they are very preliminary at this juncture and require additional vetting to arrive at any concrete list of offerings.”

Officials did not pinpoint a date when course schedules and offerings would be firmed up.

Hatboro Main Street Manager Stephen Barth said Arcadia officials have asked to tour the as a possible site to hold classes.

The educational partnership between Hatboro and Arcadia University was born from Joe Tryon’s idea to have a “satellite school” in Hatboro. Tryon, the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce president, as well as president and CEO, told Patch previously that the initiative would bring more people to Hatboro and would boost Chamber membership through member-only tuition discount incentives.
