Tools for School

It’s time for teachers, time for books and time for teachers’ dirty looks. We’ve all been there but you can avoid those dirty looks by being the most prepared, most organized kid on campus!

Start the year off in organized fashion by showing up well equipped. As you pack up for college this fall, don’t forget to bring the tools you need to get organized. We’re not just talking binders and flash drives. You’ll need a few household tools to assemble things, hang stuff and get settled. Here are the essentials.

Hammer- simple 16 ounce is perfect

Screwdriver- Philips and slotted screwdrivers in a few sizes

Frog tape – there will be posters and things to hang and frog tape won’t mar the walls

Rubber mallet – this $5 tool is perfect for tapping together those IKEA-like pieces

3M Command strips – bring a variety of Command strips i.e. hooks, art hangers, etc.

Power strip surge protectors – protect electronics from power failures

Extension cords- pack two six-foot cords

Tape measure – 15 foot is perfect size for the dorm

Flashlights - two flashlights and a stock of batteries is wise

Sharpie – mark belongings to minimize loss of communal stuff

Nails/screws –small kit for hanging items

Needle nose pliers – perfect tool for electronic and jewelry repairs

Adjustable wrench – good for those assembly required items

Be sure to pack a few other essentials for your young adults, like homemade chocolate chip cookies, their favorite pillow and stuffed buddy.

Good list Beth. It's always frustrating when you don't have the proper tool at the time that you need it. Keep up the good work with HIP Chicks.

I just spoke with customer service at SEPTA regarding this issue. They can be reached through theirRead More website, through the phone, and through a postal address for customer suggestions and complaints. At the present time Hatboro's station is not slated for specific improvements. The overall plan, however, is to eventually upgrade all of SEPTA's stations to handicap accessible.

if u ride septa with any regularity you should know, not all stops are handicapped accessible. Don'tRead More hold your breath waiting for SEPTA to change that or you can most definitely expect yet another rate increase.....
