I had quite an unpleasant surprise the other day - flood on my laundry room floor. My 14-year-old washer had never misbehaved before. But even as a confident DIYer, I panicked a little. Now what? I knew nothing about appliances.
Time for common sense. Shut down the washer, pull the plug out of the wall and grab LOTS of towels. Head to the basement and check for leaks. Oh yeah, water was streaming from a recessed light onto my sewing machine. Things were just not going well. My sewing machine was rescued and moved to a dry island of its own. I strategically plopped a trash can under the leak. Not going any where near the wet fixture, I abandoned the basement and headed back to the source.
My hubby tilted the washer on its side and a gush of slimy soapy water made the laundry room into a slip n slide. I was lucky, though, just a crack in a hose. A hose? Can't be too bad to fix myself. Well I found this great little appliance store in Lansdale. They set me up with a new hose and some instructions. So $15 hose, 15 minutes DIY time, $100 service charge still in my pocket, quiet hum of a working washer - Priceless.
