Day Light Savings Time = Money Saving Time and More

Yes, it is time to change your clocks but you won't want to skip these tips to protect your wallet and family.

We all know it's time to change the clocks but here are a few other key home maintenance tasks you should do this weekend to save money and maybe your life!

  • Change batteries in smoke detectors
  • Test carbon monoxide detectors
  • Change filter in your heater (You should do this every 3 months)
  • Use flexible duct brush to clean dryer vent duct, prevents fires from build up
  • Clean bathroom sink drains with Vinegar Flush cocktail (see below)
  • Turn off shut off valves for outdoor hose bibs (prevent burst pipes)
  • Change blade movement direction on ceiling fans (dust blades while you're up there)

Vinegar Flush Cocktail? For a healthy, non-toxic drain cleaner, try this cocktail for your pipes.

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 gallon boiling water

Pour baking soda around drain opening. Stuff a rag into small drain holes in side of bowl to keep system closed and to let the concoction bubble up. Pour in vinegar. Close drain and let sit 10 minutes. Then pour boiling water into drain and you should have free flowing pipes again.
