Be Alarmed When Your Car Won't Start

Easy DIY trick to try when your car won't start. Simple troubleshooting saves you a call for help and lost time. Fab FOB trick I must share with you!

A few weeks ago, I was down in Feasterville, which is really not so far away from  Horsham unless your car won't start and you have somewhere to be.  So like any typical woman, I called my husband and told him. "Hi Honey, I am stuck in a parking lot in Feasterville and the car won't start". He says, "Are you safe?" I confirm my physical safety and my extreme frustration in flowery terms. His advice, "Call AAA, I don't know what to do".

As an avid DIYer, I know a lot about homes, cars not so much and neither does my husband. So I grab my red, white and blue card and place my call for help!  Now before I did that I did check the obvious - is car in park (yes), is steering wheel locked (yes and I cannot get it to unlock), is there any battery action (don't know because key won't move at all). I get a friendly technician on the phone who asks me all of the above.  Help is dispatched! I settled in for my 45-60 minute wait. Must say how pleased I was to wait only 18 minutes.  Kudos to AAA.

The technician/tow truck operator asked me all the above questions then asked for my key fob. He proceeds to lock and unlock all my doors.  Then sets off my car's panic button. After he disarmed the obnoxious and shrill alarm, he put my key in the ignition and it turned right over.

Who would of thunk to do that?  What a great lesson!  Apparently, the key fob and ignition communicated poorly (a fuse was beginning to fail). Activating the alarm reset it and "Shazam", my car started. I am thrilled to know this little trick and I had to share this video recap with my HIP Chicks and Dudes!   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDSIGYMt3Wk
