Wintry Mix Predicted for Saturday

A predicted combination of snow, sleet and freezing rain could make road travel dangerous this weekend.

Roads around Hatboro and Horsham that have mostly cleared from Tuesday's snowfall are about to get covered again, according to reports.

A snowstorm forming in the Midwest will bring a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain Saturday, plus overnight temperatures in the mid-30s, the National Weather Service reports. The morning will begin with snowfall before turning into rain in the afternoon and into Sunday.

The mixture could lead to some slippery conditions on the highways this weekend. Here are some safe travel tips in advance of the coming precipitation:

  • Limit your distractions when driving but especially during adverse weather.
  • PennDOT has a “Winter Driving” webpage that highlights preparation as the main key to successfully navigating winter roads. Winter weather can bring unexpected conditions, so make sure that both you and your vehicle are ready for ice and snow.
  • Have patience and allow PennDOT and local crews time to reach less-traveled roads. Also not all highways are state highways; some are municipally-owned and are plowed by the borough/township. If you're concerned about a road, contact your municipality first.
