Volunteer Opportunities for MLK Day and Beyond
If you are looking for a place in the area to donate your time and energy, take a look at some of the available opportunities.
Today the country celebrates the life of a civil rights pioneer on Martin Luther King Day. Since the day was first established in 1983, it slowly evolved into a day of service, when people and communities donate their time and energy toward a good cause.
There are plenty of opportunities in the area for anybody interested in volunteering today or any other time throughout the year. For a lot of these organizations and nonprofits, a few extra helping hands can be just as valuable as cash donations.

What: The Friends of Graeme Park mission is to promote and preserve Graeme Park through a variety of public programs, school tours, grounds maintenance, etc. Enthusiastic volunteers with a love of history are always needed to give tours to adults and school children, help with gardening and grounds maintenance, and assist at special events.

Millbrook Society
Where: 32 N. York Road, Hatboro
What: The Millbrook Society is a nonprofit historic preservation organization in Hatboro. The organization is always looking for new members and volunteers interested in preservation methods of historic structures, fundraising and grant writing, participating in the archaeology screening project at historic Moland House in Warwick Township, contributing articles and become part of the editing team for our quarterly journal, joining the student intern program, becoming a historic re-enactor, and assisting in maintaining the archives and artifacts

What: Bedside Volunteers visit with the patients and provide support through activities such as listening, holding their hands, playing music or watching television together. Bereavement Volunteers, many of whom have experienced their own loss, are an invaluable source of support to both the patients and their families. Administrative Volunteers support the Life Choice staff with duties such as assembling informational packets, filing, data entry and telephone assistance.

Where: Willow Grove
What: The organization offers a variety of services to families fighting childhood cancer in the Delaware Valley, including financial assistance, organizing local activities and providing an annual Holiday Wish List. Volunteers are needed for fundraising events, education outreach and putting together care packages.

Manorcare Health Services
Where: 3430 Huntingdon Pike, Huntingdon Valley
What: Volunteers needed to help during the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. all days of the week. Help with activities, transport residents and just have a conversation.

Teen Talk Line of Montgomery County
Where: Fort Washington
What: The Teen Talk Line is a non profit hotline developed by Children's Crisis of Access Services as a peer to peer support resource for teens to utilize during after school hours. The program recruits and trains teen volunteers to answer calls, texts, e-mail and online chats from other teens all over Montgomery County.
