Tanner Park Nears Completion

Playground pieces have been installed at Tanner Park in Hatboro.

Only a few weeks remain until the long-awaited new playground at Tanner Park in Hatboro is available for use, according to the project's overseer.

Elm Street volunteer John Farnen told Patch he is hoping for a late April opening of the Jefferson Avenue park.

"We are in kind of a holding pattern right now," Farnen said. "The last item to be installed is the macadam walkway. So temperature and ground conditions are holding us up."

A final approval from the Hatboro Borough Council is needed before the existing fencing around the playground can be taken down, he said.

Farnen, who grew up near Tanner Park and wanted to see more recreational activities available for area children, began fundraising and planning for the new park additions more than six years ago.

"It is looking very good," Farnen said of the park. "Thanks to a lot of generous donors, a great landscape designer and the construction operational skills of a very good friend."
