Poetry Slam, Marching Bands Compete, Recycle

Horsham is the place to be this weekend as the high school hosts a marching band competition, an all-encompassing recycling event and more.

You're the star all week at work, or while taking care of the kids. Why not let someone else put on a show for you? This is the perfect weekend to be a spectator in everything from a marching band competition to an open mic night/poetry slam or a bridal beauty workshop.

Here's what's happening:

Where/when: Hatboro-Horsham High School, 899 Horsham Road, Horsham, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Why go: See the Hatters face off against 46 of the top competitive indoor percussion, colorguard, dance, and twirling teams as part of the Southeastern PA Championships.

Cost: $12

RECYCLE/DRUG TAKEBACK

Where/when: Horsham Township municipal building, 1025 Horsham Road, Horsham, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Why go: Horsham residents can drop off everything from computers to eyeglasses, retired U.S. flags, printer cartridges and everything in between for recycling. The Horsham Township Police Department will be collecting unused and expired medications for safe disposal. 

Cost: Free to Horsham residents. (ID required).

OPEN MIC NIGHT/POETRY SLAM

Where/when: Horsham Township Library, 435 Babylon Road, Horsham, Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

Why go: Express yourself through music and poetry (or watch others put on a show) during this coffeehouse-style evening in the hours after the library closes.

Cost: Free

BRIDAL BEAUTY BASICS DEMO

Where/when: Trilogy Event Design, 124 N. York Road, Hatboro, Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. 

Why go: Watch live demonstrations and participate in an interactive Q&A with area stylists and makeup artists sharing wedding day beauty tips.

Cost: $15, advance registration is required.

'MODEL' BOOK-SIGNING

Where/when: Maine Star Coffee, 237 Jacksonville Road, Hatboro, Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. 

Why go: Purchase copies of 10th-grader Rhiannon Richardson's book, "Model Friendship" and have it autographed during this book-signing event.

Cost: Free admission; $13 for the book.
