Be sure to watch for debris, downed trees and limbs and utility lines, which could be live. If you encounter a flooded roadway, do not attempt to drive through it. The average automobile can be swept off the road in 12 inches of moving water, and roads covered by water are prone to collapse, officials said. If you come upon a flooded street, take an alternate route.

Also, it is now illegal for drivers to go around a traffic control device that indicates a road closure due to a hazardous condition. The law imposes a fine of $250 to $500 on violators and two points on their driver’s license, and requires they pay restitution for the cost for any fire, police and EMS response.

If you know of a road closure, post it in comments and we'll take it from there.
