Horsham Freezer 5K Winners Announced

Nearly 300 runners turned out for Horsham's second annual run.

A Harleysville man and a Glenside woman were once again tops among several hundred runners at Horsham's second annual Freezer 5K run on Sunday. 

Jake Portock of Harleysville was the overall winner with a time of 17 minutes. Elizabeth Sweeney of Glenside, who finished the course in 18:44, was the top female finisher. Both runners topped their winning times from 2012. 

Close to 300 runners and walkers braved the remnants of Saturday's ice storm and took part in Horsham Township's second annual Freezer 5K and 1-Mile Fun Walk on Sunday. The course winds along Horsham’s Power Line trail.

Proceeds benefit Horsham Township families in need and the Horsham Parks and Recreation Department. More than 30 local vendors took part at the site displaying their products and services.

Corey Driscoll of Ambler (18:10) finished second in the male bracket with Bill Salamone of Rosyln (18:32) finishing third. In the overall female category Lotte Black of Ambler (19:46) was second and Gert Freas of North Wales (21:36) was third. 12-year-old Joey Cahill of Blue Bell (20:03) was the top finisher among those under 13. Ross Schriftman of Horsham won the male 60-69 division with a time of 22:04.

The 5K race was professionally chip timed from start to finish along the trail, which begins and ends at Simmons Elementary School411 Babylon Road in Horsham.
