'Horsham Day' Moves from Red to Green

Horsham's annual day-long community event was short on funding—until recently.

A fishing derby, petting zoo, pony rides, food, entertainment, car show, fireworks and more.

That's what the community has come to know, love and expect from the township's annual Horsham Day. Two weeks after Patch shared the funding struggles the township was facing in putting on its June 1 event, Mark Hudson, Horsham's director of parks and recreation, said Horsham Day will go on as it has in years past.

"We’ve actually had some companies that have stepped up and given some larger donations," Hudson said. "Horsham Day is looking fine."

Hudson said he does not expect to have anything that would seem "different" than previous years. In fact, he's working with folks in the community to finalize a few new offerings. Last year's popular Minute to Win It will return, he said.

Earlier this month, he said the township had only $22,000 in sponsorships committed for the $40,000 event. This week, Hudson reported that the township is much further along in fundraising.

"We're getting close," he said. "I'm feeling more comfortable that we're going to get there."

Horsham Day begins at 8 a.m. on June 1 and features sometimes simultaneous events at the township building, Deep Meadow Park, Samuel Carpenter Park and Kohler Park, capping at night with a fireworks display. Offered free to the community, the all-day event is put on with the help of 50 to 100 volunteers, as well sponsorships to cover costs.

Last year, between 6,000 and 7,000 people attended and approximately 10,000 to 11,000 people watched the annual fireworks display, Hudson said.
