Hatboro YMCA's Pool to Become Parking Lot

Several months after announcing that the Hatboro Area YMCA would close its outdoor pool, an official confirmed that it will be made into an expanded parking lot.

Have you had trouble finding a parking spot at the Hatboro Area YMCA lately?

In a matter of weeks it should be easier to find somewhere to park, according to YMCA Spokeswoman Omoiye Kinney, who told Patch that construction would begin soon to remove the closed-down outdoor pool and replace it with about 30 additional parking spaces. Kinney said the space would also accommodate the YMCA's summer day camp programming.

The expanded lot would be ready before camp begins in June, Kinney said.

Kinney said adding onto the existing parking lot was the "immediate plan" and added that "ideally" the Y would like to expand the facility.

"It could be five years," Kinney said. "It could be 10 years."

Hatboro officials had announced in January that the YMCA intended to close its outdoor pool. For the next several months, officials worked to find practice sites for the Hatboro YMCA's swim team, the Hurricanes. Sites were finalized in late March for the season that gets underway later this month.
