Hatboro Y to Help Kids Get Healthy

The YMCA's annual Healthy Kids Day will be held Saturday at the Hatboro branch.

Area children will have the chance to exercise their bodies–and minds–during the Hatboro Area YMCA's annual Healthy Kids Day.

The Y's free community event, which will also be offered at 1,900 YMCA locations, is slated for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Hatboro Y, 440 S. York Road.

Aimed at encouraging Hatboro and Horsham kids to get moving, learning and adopting ways to live healthier, the event features health-related activities including family yoga, gymnastics, face painting, an obstacle course and much more.

According to the latest findings of the YMCA’s Family Health Snapshot – a survey of parents that gauges their children’s activity levels during the school year – 19 percent of children get 60 minutes of physical activity; 17 percent read books for fun; and 12 percent eat at least eight fruits and vegetables daily.

Hatboro YMCA Executive Director Gary Chamberlain said the Y, through Healthy Kids Day, hopes to encourage healthier habits.

“We want to help ensure fewer kids are at risk of childhood obesity and more kids excel in school,” said Chamberlain. “YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day will get kids moving and learning while also helping families get a jump on creating a healthier summer, and ultimately a healthier future.”
