Gardeners Hope to Lure Wildlife to Eaton Park

The Gardeners of Crooked Billet hope to designate a portion of Eaton Park as a Certified Wildlife Habitat.

Birds, butterflies and small animals will have their own sanctuary at Eaton Park come spring.

The Hatboro Borough Council on Monday night approved the Gardeners of Crooked Billet's request to designate a portion of the park as a Certified Wildlife Habitat.

The club's president, Lori Pancione, told Patch previously that once the council granted its approval the Gardeners would file an application with the National Wildlife Federation and purchase a sign designating the area as such.

Borough Manager Fred Zollers said the public works department would "put up a couple fence posts" around the area, which is situated at the far back area of the park by the stream.

Zollers said he expects the fence and accompanying signage, to be installed in the spring.

Besides fencing, Zollers said nothing else is needed for the habitat.

"It already meets all of the criteria," Zollers said, adding that a water source is one of the components. "It'll be nice."
