A Day For Horsham

Saturday's annual Horsham Day event promises food and fun.

In Horsham, the first Saturday in June is reserved for something special.

A daylong festival is a burst of fun in the township, where visitors spend a day with games, rides and live entertainment.   

Horsham Day, the township’s annual Spring festival first held over 40 years ago, will happen Saturday at and the adjoining and . Kicking off at 8 a.m. with a 5K Run/Walk, the day’s events will conclude with the traditional fireworks display starting at 9:15 p.m. As a prelude to Horsham Day, an evening plant swap and bingo games at the township community center will be held Friday.

Horsham Day is a collaborative effort between the township’s Parks and Recreation department and the .

Some of this year’s new events include miniature golf, a Nationwide Insurance NASCAR car and simulator game, kettle corn and puppets.

Early in the day visitors can participate in a youth fishing contest in Kohler Park, as well as other athletic tournaments through the day. The Horsham Lions will bring their traditional dunk tank.

Civil War and World War II re-enactors will be on hand, as will live musical entertainment. Ronald McDonald, The Nashville Kats and Battle of the Bands winner, Casual Badger, will be on the main stage.

Additionally, the will hold an open house.

“It’s going to be a great day. We’re looking forward to it, and we’ll top the day off with the amazing fireworks display that people have come to expect,” said Mark Hudson, director of the township’s parks and recreation department.

Local nonprofit groups will benefit from Cow Plop Bingo, featuring a real cow, and brought by the Greater Horsham Chamber of Commerce’s Nonprofit Roundtable.

According to Jo-Anne Zapata, Chamber president, “The Cow Plop Bingo gives them a chance to earn some money and create an interest in their organization, the Roundtable, the Chamber and Horsham Day. It should be a lot of fun!”   

The Friends of will again hold their Rock & Read event, auctioning off rocking chairs decorated by local groups. According to Horsham Library Director Laurie Tynan, proceeds will support children’s summer reading programs.

Visitors can taste locals’ culinary prowess as establishments like and . The Horsham Lions Club will bring their traditional pulled pork. 

At sunset, visitors can bring blankets to the baseball field hills and listen to music as they anticipate the fireworks.

According to Mary Dare, chairwoman of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, “The entire day is a magical experience as people from all over the area come together to simply celebrate the joy of family and friendship. That’s what makes Horsham such a wonderful place to live.”
